YAMAHA MT-15 OVERVIEW
The all new Yamaha MT-15 has been a long anticipated model and bring the practicality of street fighter while sporting the performance of the R15. In fact, the underpinnings on both motorcycles remain the same,giving more options to customer,choosing between the track focussed aggression of the R15 and the upright yet sporty styling of the MT-15. Priced at Rs.1.36 lakh, the new Yamaha new street fighter is only Rs 3,000 cheaper than the R15, but manages to stand out amidst a host of offerings including KTM 125 Duke, Bajaj pulsar NS 200 and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.
The Yamaha MT-15 not only manages to bring freshness to the segment but also to the brand's line up in term of design. It is by the boldest yet from the manufacturer and follows the design language seen on bigger models like the MT-09 and MT-10. The styling is aggressive and garner a lot of road presence thanks to the twin slot day time running lights and a single LED in the centre. The transformer like face is hard to miss and is further complement by sculpted fuel tank with radiator shrouds and a plastic belly pan. The step single piece seat look more contoured and more comfortable to with the extended tail section that houses the LED taillights.
The instrument panel has barrowed from the new YZR-R15 V3.0 and get a negative LCD display. The unit come with a digital speedometer, bar styled tachometer above, and a fuel gauge along with ABS warning lamp. There also the odometer, Trip 1, Trip 2 and clock as well as the gear shift light indicator and VVA indicator with respect to power, the Yamaha MT-15 uses the same 155 cc single cylinder, liquid cooled Engine as the R15 with the variable valve Actuation (VVA) technology. The motor belts out 19 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.7Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm, while paired with a 6 - speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch as standard. The top speed on the MT-15 is rated at 118 kmpl.
Underpinned by the Deltabox frame, the MT-15 is suspended the telescopic forks up with 130 mm travel and a monoshok unit at the rear with 97 mm travel. Braking performance comes from a single 282 km disc at the front and 220 mm rear. The bike come with single channel ABS as standard. The bike ride on 100/80 R17 tyre at the front, whereas the rear uses a 140/70 R17 unit.
